Mutiny In China - Youth is giving up on life "Let it Rot", CCP worried

....

China's youth is giving up they've quit

0:04

their jobs they've abandoned their

0:06

families and they have stopped trying in

0:09

pretty much every aspect of life

0:12

what started out as a gimmicky online

0:14

fad Bailon or let it rot has gained more

0:19

and more traction with the country's

0:20

Youth and become sort of a peaceful but

0:23

effective Rebellion against the ccp's

0:26

governance it has spread so much that

0:28

it's actually affecting the nation's

0:30

economy

0:32

and its future

0:33

the CCP is so worried about this that Xi

0:36

Jinping himself had to come out and call

0:39

for the help of the country's youth to

0:41

go back to work

0:53

[Music]

0:59

so in this video we'll cover how China

1:04

got here how did things get so bad that

1:07

the youth have completely given up on

1:09

life and how is this affecting the

1:11

economy and XI jinping's Rule and I'm

1:14

basically say no to the system

1:16

I will not cooperate then I have my own

1:19

anti-social Behavior by line it's even

1:22

worse than tamping so that's the reason

1:25

why Chinese leadership really worry

1:27

about this trend the phrases really

1:30

commonly used by by Me by my friends by

1:33

the younger people in China as we

1:35

understand it it's pretty disastrous in

1:37

the long term structurally right

1:39

particularly as China's facing the same

1:41

kind of demographic challenges

1:42

unemployment in cities Rose to almost 20

1:45

percent in July 2022 the highest since

1:48

the Chinese government started

1:50

publishing the figures in 2018. as a

1:52

result the country's economy has slowed

1:54

down and is struggling to boost growth

1:56

okay before getting into why Xi Jinping

1:59

is so worried about this let it rot

2:01

movement let's start from the beginning

2:04

how did we get here and why are the

2:06

Chinese youth seemingly giving up on

2:08

life

2:09

I feel like I've shown this chart

2:11

hundreds of times in my past videos but

2:13

here's China's GDP over the last few

2:16

decades

2:17

they've experienced an explosive growth

2:20

in their economy as China opened up to

2:22

the world and became the global

2:24

manufacturing hub

2:25

this led to noticeable improvements in

2:28

people's lives we can see that if we

2:30

just look at GDP per capita millions of

2:33

people who were born in underdeveloped

2:35

villages in rural China were pulled out

2:38

of poverty and are now living pretty

2:40

respectable middle class lives that's a

2:43

huge advancement in the span of a few

2:45

decades

2:46

if we look at China's income graph we

2:49

can see that in 1990 the average Chinese

2:52

citizen was making 330 dollars annually

2:55

and by 2019 that figure is closer to ten

2:59

thousand dollars that kind of increase

3:02

in a nation of a billion plus people

3:06

well that's no small feat the government

3:08

did have to do a lot of forceful and uh

3:11

questionable stuff to achieve this but I

3:14

mean it's still impressive the main

3:16

issue here is that there were a lot of

3:18

questionable policies along the way that

3:20

the government implemented that are

3:23

coming back to haunt them now

3:25

one of these policies was the one child

3:27

policy child policy it was basically

3:30

exactly what it sounded like of limiting

3:32

how many children families could have in

3:34

1979 when it was introduced China was a

3:36

poor country facing an exploding

3:38

population 400 million births haven't

3:40

happened because of this policy it faced

3:43

massive famine and housing shortages its

3:45

economy needed time to develop and the

3:48

world deeply feared overpopulation

3:50

China's response was the famous

3:52

one-child policy fearing overpopulation

3:54

the CCP forced families to have only one

3:57

kid

3:58

most of us could have guessed but this

4:01

led to many problems that we're gonna

4:03

need a whole separate video to cover but

4:05

here's a quick summary of what's

4:07

important for this topic because of the

4:09

ccp's one child policy it's expected

4:12

that soon the country will have more

4:14

older people than younger workers

4:17

here's China's demographic pyramid in

4:19

1980. around the time when the one-child

4:21

policy went into effect this is great

4:24

for Any Nation a lot of working adults

4:27

and kids adults are productive members

4:30

of the economy right now and kids will

4:32

be productive members of the society in

4:34

the coming future

4:35

the older population well they already

4:38

put in their hard work so now they get

4:40

to live off the work of the economically

4:42

productive members of the society that's

4:45

why any growing economy usually has a

4:47

lot of productive members and a smaller

4:49

number of non-productive members

4:51

but due to the one child policy China's

4:54

population wasn't able to replace itself

4:57

I mean think about it if you need two

4:59

kids just to replace the parents in the

5:01

future and maybe a little bit more to

5:03

make up for any unexpected deaths that's

5:06

why the replacement birth rate is around

5:07

2.1 kids per family coming back to our

5:10

topic about China's youth there's a lot

5:13

of cultural pressure on them as well

5:15

older Generations who worked hard and

5:18

witnessed China's exponential growth now

5:21

have their expectations set pretty high

5:24

they expect their kids to continue the

5:26

same progress for the family and the

5:28

country they expect the current

5:30

generation of workers to get a higher

5:31

education get a high paying job and

5:34

continue building towards a better and

5:35

better life for their family and this is

5:37

not to say that other cultures don't

5:39

have the same expectations for their

5:41

kids but in China this expectation is a

5:43

bit

5:44

unrealistic with the way the CCP is

5:47

managing the economy

5:49

and because of Chinese culture a lot of

5:51

adults are expected to take care of

5:53

their parents and sometimes even their

5:55

grandparents too on top of that they're

5:57

expected to constantly succeed in their

5:59

work life save up for a house get

6:01

married and keep progressing

6:04

this is already too much pressure on a

6:07

working population that is shrinking in

6:10

China but the problems don't stop there

6:12

this video is sponsored by me we had a

6:15

real sponsor but they backed out because

6:17

they didn't like the topic of the video

6:18

so I'm sponsoring my own video more

6:21

details later in the video for now

6:23

please hit that like button as youth

6:25

unemployment stands at 18.4 Chinese

6:28

authorities launched a sweeping

6:29

Crackdown on private and online tuition

6:32

wiped out an estimated 3 million jobs

6:34

around 9 million Chinese students are

6:37

graduating each year those graduating

6:40

today find themselves going into a tough

6:42

labor market that doesn't match

6:44

expectations simultaneous slumped since

6:47

May 2020 China's exports and imports

6:49

they have unexpectedly contracted

6:52

autonomous estimated that China was

6:54

losing 45 billion dollars in GDP per

6:56

month currently China's youth

6:58

unemployment rate sits at a jaw dropping

7:01

20

7:03

nearly one in five young workers don't

7:07

have a job this is in part due to the

7:09

bylon movement but also in part due to

7:12

there not being enough jobs in the early

7:14

2010s the CCP made a heavy push to get

7:17

China's students to pursue higher

7:19

education which you know sounds like a

7:21

great thing and it usually is the more

7:23

educated a population becomes the better

7:25

it is for the economy but in China's

7:28

case everything didn't really go

7:30

according to plan

7:31

the CCP expected China to be a more

7:33

mature economy by now but China's

7:36

economy is still driven mainly by

7:38

low-income manufacturing jobs

7:40

so when the government pushes students

7:42

towards higher education these students

7:44

expect high-income high-skilled jobs

7:47

when they graduate and now the CCP is

7:51

realizing that there just aren't enough

7:52

jobs for all these Highly Educated

7:55

graduates

7:56

this is creating intense competition

7:58

between graduates to land what little

8:00

jobs China's economy does have to offer

8:03

in this situation any competent

8:05

government would tailor policies to

8:07

attract foreign companies that need this

8:09

labor and promote more business activity

8:11

locally so that graduates can find jobs

8:13

so what did the CCP do why the exact

8:16

opposite of course founder Jack Ma has

8:19

made a powerful enemy

8:21

the Chinese president Xi Jinping the

8:24

same day shares plunged almost 10

8:26

percent Xi Jinping is the supreme leader

8:29

and alibaba's Jack ma learned this the

8:32

hard way a 37 billion dollar IPO was

8:35

canceled at the 11th Hour ports say the

8:38

order came right from the top Alibaba

8:41

was fined a record 2.8 billion dollars

8:44

for monopolistic conduct China has

8:46

issued regulations for off-campus

8:48

tutoring Services Banning private firms

8:50

from offering after-school training in

8:53

core School subjects while the move has

8:55

raised concerns among both parents and

8:57

private education institutions the

8:58

sudden policy change has led to a

9:00

tutoring Black Market which could

9:03

benefit wealthy families and price out

9:05

poorer families in an attempt to reel in

9:08

China's billionaires and send a message

9:10

to all Chinese Elites Xi Jinping set out

9:13

to destroy Jack Ma and the majority of

9:17

the tech sector really with trumped-up

9:19

regulations and fines the CCP destroyed

9:23

hundreds of billions of dollars in value

9:25

for China's tech companies

9:27

and with these companies getting

9:29

battered from all sides the job

9:31

prospects for many graduates disappeared

9:34

overnight

9:35

on top of this the CCP also banned the

9:37

whole tutoring industry with a snap of a

9:39

finger which was worth close to a

9:41

hundred billion dollars at the time

9:43

tutoring was a common job option for

9:45

many Highly Educated graduates that well

9:48

disappeared in an instant because of the

9:51

ccp's actions

9:52

so when you factor all this in you can

9:54

see why finding a job is getting harder

9:57

and harder for China's Youth and the CCP

9:59

had been of no help

10:01

and then covet hit list from Chinese

10:04

State media arrive in Wuhan to cover a

10:07

story about a mysterious new virus the

10:10

few confirmed cases of the disease are

10:12

at a seafood market Wuhan in China now

10:15

on lockdown as the country struggles

10:17

with fear of a pandemic Desperate

10:19

Measures to try and contain the deadly

10:20

coronavirus that deadly coronavirus

10:23

outbreak has authorities taking new

10:25

unprecedented drastic action today as

10:28

they try to keep a lid on it 13 cities

10:31

with a combined population equaling

10:33

Canada's nearly in lockdown this morning

10:35

they're racing to build a new one

10:38

thousand bed hospital to treat patients

10:41

even though the CCP did a good job

10:43

containing the spread during the early

10:45

days of covid you really can't say the

10:48

same for 2022. when coveted cases spiked

10:51

again in Chinese cities in 2022 the CCP

10:54

went on an all-out War to achieve its

10:58

utopian-like goal of xerokovic

11:01

brutal lockdowns killed countless

11:03

businesses and stifled any economic

11:05

bounce back that China's businesses had

11:07

been working towards the global economy

11:10

was also slowing down which heavily

11:12

impacted China and its local job market

11:15

as you can see the job market is

11:17

shrinking more and more and cultural

11:19

pressure to be successful is piling up

11:21

on China's youth as they get older as

11:23

I've discussed in my previous videos

11:25

much like the American dream the Chinese

11:27

dream is to get a job and then buy real

11:30

estate

11:31

real estate holds a very important

11:33

significance in Chinese culture men with

11:35

real estate are considered high status

11:37

and more suitable for marriage

11:39

going back to the ccp's one child policy

11:42

since families were only allowed one

11:45

child a lot of them favored having a boy

11:47

over a girl this has led to a drastic

11:51

mismatch in the male to female ratio in

11:53

China

11:54

there are around 70 million more men

11:57

than women in China

11:59

this makes the competition for marriage

12:01

even more intense much like the job

12:03

market competition

12:05

this is part of the reason why real

12:07

estate prices have been skyrocketing in

12:08

China over the past few decades and

12:11

before someone comments let me clarify

12:13

I'm not saying this is the only reason

12:16

behind the real estate bubble there are

12:18

many other factors that play a bigger

12:19

role but marriage desirability is at

12:23

least a small part of the reason behind

12:25

the price rises in China even though the

12:28

real estate bubble seems to be popping

12:29

in China buying an apartment is still

12:31

very much Out Of Reach for many

12:33

households in fact if we look at this

12:35

chart from 2016 we can see that many

12:38

Chinese cities rank in the top 10 worst

12:41

cities in terms of home prices versus

12:43

average income of residents things

12:46

haven't improved much in six years

12:47

either

12:48

I can't find a chart but here's a table

12:50

with the same data you can see there are

12:53

still many Chinese cities in the top ten

12:56

so real estate ownership is important in

12:59

China if you want to progress in life

13:01

but it's nearly impossible to buy based

13:03

on average Chinese salaries jobs are

13:06

getting incredibly hard to get because

13:07

of intense competition for the small

13:09

number of jobs that are available when

13:11

compared to well a large pool of

13:13

prospects and if you are lucky enough to

13:15

get a job working in Chinese culture is

13:19

pretty intense especially when compared

13:21

to the salaries being paid it's common

13:24

to see the 996 work schedule in China

13:27

meaning you work from 9am to 9pm six

13:31

days a week all while making very little

13:33

money

13:34

and if you dare complain about anything

13:37

well employers have all the leverage

13:39

since they can replace you in a

13:41

heartbeat due to the high demand for

13:43

your job so as the situation kept

13:46

getting worse and worse and the CCP was

13:48

doing very little to improve the economy

13:51

a movement started brewing in China has

13:55

been Awash with the phrase bylan which

13:57

means Let It Raw this has coincided with

14:00

many young people in China becoming

14:01

increasingly frustrated with both their

14:04

personal and professional lives their

14:06

phrases really commonly used by by me

14:09

but my friends by the younger people in

14:11

China you know naturally people are

14:13

going to rebel against something that

14:16

really undermines their physical moral

14:20

and spiritual well-being the jobs are

14:23

scarce you know the competition is Keen

14:25

so that is why I'm saying that I I don't

14:29

want to engage in this kind of

14:30

competition they just can't see any hope

14:32

in doing so

14:33

Chinese youth have started giving up on

14:36

trying in an attempt to force the

14:39

government to improve their situation so

14:42

far on weibo the related hashtag has

14:44

accumulated over

14:45

93.2 million views and searching the

14:49

phrase on xiaohongshu results in over

14:51

2.6 million user generated content ugc

14:55

instances it's spreading so quickly that

14:59

the CCP has actually started censoring

15:01

the keywords online talking about

15:03

censorship some of the videos I'm making

15:05

on this channel are sometimes considered

15:07

too controversial for YouTube and their

15:09

Almighty algorithm may not recommend

15:12

them to you so if you guys can just take

15:14

a quick second to hit that subscribe

15:16

button it would help me out a lot

15:18

appreciate it young people have burned

15:21

out trying so hard for so long to no

15:24

avail this is how they make sense of it

15:27

in their mind someone has to be a loser

15:29

because of the way the economy is set up

15:31

too many people and not enough jobs real

15:34

estate prices are too high and salaries

15:36

well aren't so why try so hard if you

15:40

know you're just gonna fail if you don't

15:43

try at all then at least you're not

15:44

disappointed when you inevitably lose

15:46

right

15:48

so that's basically the thinking behind

15:49

the hole let it rot movement I know it

15:52

sounds crazy to some older folks but

15:53

that's how it's being looked at right

15:54

now in China

15:56

have you guys ever you ever been playing

15:58

a game where you're losing so badly that

16:00

you just you stop trying there's no

16:02

chance you're gonna make a comeback so

16:04

why not at least you know just save the

16:06

energy well that's pretty similar to how

16:08

Chinese youth are feeling towards life

16:09

right now even though it may sound silly

16:11

to some this is turning into a serious

16:13

problem for the future of China's

16:14

economy and the communist government CCP

16:17

officials have publicly come out and

16:19

said that this attitude will slow

16:21

China's growth and will result in

16:23

generations of slackers

16:25

State media has already started

16:27

publishing articles about why the youth

16:29

should avoid Bailon and refuse that

16:31

mindset but so far the movement doesn't

16:34

look like it's slowing down only the

16:36

future will tell us how much this

16:38

affects the already slowing Chinese

16:40

economy so since I couldn't get a

16:43

sponsor I decided to sponsor it myself

16:45

and tell you guys about problems with

16:46

our Facebook page Facebook has been

16:49

restricting our videos because it

16:50

considers the topics too sensitive

16:53

apparently videos talking about China's

16:55

economic crisis are too sensitive for

16:57

Facebook this makes it hard to grow as a

17:00

new page so if you guys use Facebook it

17:03

would mean the world to me if you

17:04

followed my page on Facebook our next

17:07

video about why China has so many

17:09

enemies will be released on Facebook a

17:11

full 24 hours before YouTube so please

17:14

follow the page it's
